Hello : ) my name is Jojanneke Wiig Zuidmeer

 

I work from home in my studio based on the crest of the Waitakere ranges in the North Island of New Zealand where I live with my husband and our two children.

I started my creative career in 1997, graduating from Auckland University with a bachelor’s degree in both Design and Photography.

 

I worked in various design studios for 10 years, and following this I became an art director

at an advertising agency here in Auckland, directing everything from branding, catalogues, billboards and EDMs to television commercials.

​

Upon becoming pregnant with my second child, I was diagnosed with postnatal depression. This tricky time also happened to coincide with losing my long-time equine friend.

 

A friend suggested that I reconnect with Mother Earth by means of getting my hands into some soil or even throwing clay to aid me during this difficult time. So, my journey in ceramics began.

 

For the past 10 years I have been creating urban wear and selling these to family,

friends and friends of friends. Each piece I create carries the emblem of my horse

as my tribute to her.

I have sold my pieces in The Pah Homestead in Auckland and the Estuary Arts Centre

in Orewa. My ceramics are being enjoyed in Ireland, Las Vegas and Australia.

 

More recently I have exhibited alongside The Auckland Studio Potters in their annual Nourish exhibition at the Allpress Studio.
